Ruck & Ramble Club
Weighted walks through Singapore's greenest trails. No experience needed, just decent shoes and people worth walking with.
Walk Together, Feel Stronger.
A community walking club for aunties, uncles, and anyone who wants more movement in their week. Pick a session from 1.5 to 2.5+ hours, enjoy the guided scenic MacRitchie-to-Upper Thomson routes, and refuel with refreshments provided at the end of the walk at Fitstop Upper Thomson where we can chat and relax. No awkward good-bye in the middle of a pavement at the end of a walk.
Meet Your Club Leader
Raine has been an athlete since school, and it just never really stopped. Fitness stayed part of her routine through university and into adulthood. Ruck & Ramble Club actually started by accident. While running nature expeditions for kids at the Botanic Gardens, Raine kept getting sign-ups from aunties and uncles who thought the programme was for adults too. Talking to them, the same thing kept coming up: they wanted more movement in their lives, and people to share it with. Ruck & Ramble Club isn't run the same way as the children's expeditions, but it carries the same heart: an intentional walk in nature, done with people who can grow from strangers into friends. What is Rucking?
It's Walking — With a Little Extra Weight on Your Back.
Rucking is walking with a lightly weighted backpack. That's really it — no running, no gym background needed. The weight doesn't have to be fancy either: water bottles, a couple of books, or a weighted vest all do the job. What it adds is real, though. That extra load builds strength and helps protect your bones, and it keeps your heart rate up without pounding your joints the way running does. Basically, a normal walk starts working a lot harder for you. Throw in decent company and a nice trail, and it stops feeling like exercise at all.
Why Ruck?
Adding a bit of weight to your walk does more for your body than walking alone ever could.
-

Add some weight and you can burn up to 3x more calories than a regular walk covers over the same distance.
-

It's a lot easier on your knees and joints than running, so you can do this often without paying for it later.
-

That extra weight on your back means your core, legs, and stabilising muscles are working the whole way, not just your legs.
-

Carrying the load also tends to straighten your posture because you naturally stand taller and engage your upper back.
No experience needed. Just bring decent shoes, weights, and an open mind.

Routes are planned ahead, not decided on the day. Raine maps each one out by duration and difficulty. There's progression built in for regulars who want to build up over time, but shorter, gentler routes stay in rotation too, so beginners (or anyone easing back into movement) aren't left behind.
Sessions start at either MacRitchie Reservoir Park (Lornie Road) or Venus Drive (Upper Thomson), depending on the day's route, and end at Fitstop Upper Thomson, where refreshments await.
